Day 5: Lunch and Missions

What I Did:
Today I had the opportunity to take a student from the Cedarville University, where I work, to lunch. Marcus is a freshman and we have been able to hang out a few times this year. This summer he is going on two missions trip. One is a  trip to China with a team from Athletes in Action to play basketball in China. The second a trip with the Men’s Basketball team at Cedarville to an Indian reservation in New Mexico. It was great to hear about all the Lord has taught him this year and to see his excitement for these trips.

As you would expect, I had two coupons for free 2 piece chicken lunch at Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken.  Lee’s is one of my favorite lunch locations.  Along with this time to just encourage Marcus Steph and I also making a small contribution to Marcus’s trip to China. I am excited for all he will learn and experience.

What I Learned:
Marcus has to raise a significant amount of money for both these trips and he isn’t worried about it all. To be honest, one of the reason I have never gone on an overseas missions trip is because I am afraid to raise the money. I know, seems odd for a guy who does this for a living. His faith and confidence that God will work it all out was a good admonishment for me.

I also learned that I am getting old. When I picked him up at 11:40 AM he had just gotten up. Of course he went to bed at 3 AM. I remember those days…barely.
